How to Install Aluminum Stair Nosings with Rubber Insert

Prepare the Rubber Insert

• Cut the rubber insert to match the length of the aluminum nosing if not pre-cut.
• Apply a generous amount of strong adhesive to the back of the rubber insert.
• Press the rubber insert firmly onto the aluminum nosing, ensuring it is centered and smooth out any air bubbles.

Prepare the Stair Treads

• Clean the edge of each stair tread thoroughly to remove any dirt, dust, or debris. This ensures a strong bond between the adhesive and the stair tread.
• Allow the cleaned area to dry completely before proceeding.

Attach the Aluminum Nosings

• Apply a generous amount of adhesive to the back of the aluminum nosing, covering the entire surface to ensure a strong bond.
• Align the nosing with the edge of the stair tread and press it firmly into place.
• If using screws, pre-drill holes through the aluminum nosing and into the stair tread at regular intervals (e.g., every 6 inches).
• Insert screws into the pre-drilled holes and tighten securely. Be careful not to over-tighten as this can damage the nosing or the tread.

Secure the Nosing in Place

• For adhesive-only installation, apply a continuous bead of adhesive along the back of the nosing and press it firmly onto the stair tread.
• Wipe away any excess adhesive before it dries to maintain a clean finish.

Trim Excess Rubber Insert

• Once the adhesive has dried completely, use a utility knife to trim any excess rubber insert that may extend beyond the edges of the aluminum nosing.
• Wear protective gloves to avoid cuts or injuries while trimming.

Inspect the Installation

• Inspect each installed aluminum stair nosing to ensure it is securely in place and the rubber insert is properly adhered.
• Check for any areas that may need adjustment or additional adhesive.

Repeat for Remaining Stairs

• Repeat the above steps for each stair tread, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all steps.
